The Institute for International Studies (IIS) at the University of Maryland is one of the world’s leading centers for research and teaching on international affairs. Overview of the Institute:
The Institute for Advanced Study is a research university in Princeton, New Jersey, United States. Various publications have ranked it as one of the world's top universities. The university has produced many notable alums, including Albert Einstein, John von Neumann, and Stephen Hawking.
The Institute was founded in 1930 by the philanthropist Paul Mellon as a place where "the highest quality intellectual work on the most important problems of our time" could be done. The original charter called for a faculty of 20 professors and 200 students. In 1933, the Institute moved to its current location on the former estate of Lord Bryce in Princeton.
Today, the Institute has a faculty of more than 1,000 professors and 10,000 students from around the world. Its research programs are divided into six main areas: mathematics, physics, astronomy, chemistry, earth and environmental, and social sciences. The Institute also maintains close ties with Princeton University and collaborates with other institutions across the globe.
